ARTHRITIS

What Is Arthritis?

“Arthritis” is not a single disease, but there are more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions. As a term is an informal way of referring to a joint disorder which features inflammation of one or more joints. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability worldwide and it’s part of the natural process of ageing. Therefore, it is a fact of life and irrespective of a persons age, sex or race, all people can and will have arthritis in their life.

The Most Common Types

Osteoarthritis: Most frequent in people over 50, but as a result arthritis can develop earlier in life. Even being overweight can also overstress your spine, hips, knees etc and an unhealthy diet can also lead to osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis:  most commonly affects women between the ages of 30-50 and is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in your joints, severe pain and swelling. Usually targets the joints and tendons of the wrists, hands or feet on both sides and it attacks the body in cycles, known as flare-ups.
